Ancient Egyptian-Themed Party

My seven year-old daughter is a very unique kid. She likes touching icky things, like frogs and snakes. She loves the Beatles and Jack Johnson. And for her seventh birthday party, she wanted an Ancient Egyptian party.

Now, believe it or not, the party supply store had very little in the way of Egyptian-themed decor. There was plenty Hanna Montana, but no Cleopatra. So, we had to make due.

For starters, we did some sand art. (No one got the Egypt/sand connection, but the kids had fun.) Definitely an outside activity, unless you have a really good vaccuum.

We also had a mummy contest.

For the cake, I wrote hieroglypics with an edible marker.

I made some pyramids out of brown sugar and hand-cut the Egyptian eye.
And I hand-molded some scarabs.
My daughter wanted chocolate cake with white chocolate ganache. And yes, she did say “ganache”. I’m telling you: she’s a character.

    I love this cake! I am looking to make a cake for my sister’s highschool graduation party. She loves Egypt as much as I do, and thought it would be perfect for her to have an Egyptian themed cake. I would love to know how to recreate this cake! Thank you!

    This is so funny, I am currently planning my daughter’s 7th Ancient Egyptian birthday party. Love the cake! It’s nice to know there are other kids as awesome as her out there, and other mom’s who support them wholehartedly!
