We made some fabulous cakes again this year, and they are all near and dear to my heart, but there can be only one Cake of the Year. Last year, Callan and I easily agreed on the winner. This year we didn’t agree as readily, but after some convincing Callan kind of came around. (At least she said she agreed with me.)
Here are some of the cakes we designed in 2015:
This year, our cakes were decidedly un-fussy. Fewer sugar flowers in favor of real blooms. Less fondant, more buttercream.
Its simplicity is what makes our 2015 winner so perfect to me. A simple crumb coat iced smooth, some beautiful flowers supplied and arranged by Saipua, and an easy delivery to a favorite venue just down the road, (You can read more about this cake here.) It’s the cake that best symbolizes 2015. And here it is.
